So you can use DefragMentor Lite to optimise placement of particular files thus reducing access time and improving overall performance of your system. Database files of any kind (especially large ones) are the best example of what DefragMentor Lite can optimise. BOOT-TIME DEFRAGMENTING Due to the fact that some files are always locked by the system (for example, registry and paging files), you cannot defragment them while the system is up and running. The Boot-Time Defragmenting feature of DefragMentor Lite allows you to defragment files of this kind during the system boot process before they get locked. Obviously, you have to reboot the system from time to time in order to give DefragMentor Lite a chance to run at boot-time. REQUIREMENTS AND LIMITATIONS DefragMentor Lite requires Windows NT 4.0 (with Service Pack 2 or higher installed) or Windows 2000 and works with FAT, NTFS and compressed NTFS files that reside on fixed hard drives. It does not support files on network, floppy or removable drives. Besides, due to Windows NT limitations DefragMentor Lite does not support NTFS volumes with cluster size greater than 4096 bytes. SAFETY DefragMentor Lite uses the native Windows NT defragmentation support and does not access the disk directly. Also note that trying to optimise a target file DefragMentor Lite does not affect other files on the disk. Therefore, DefragMentor Lite is quite safe and cannot break the consistency of the disk data structure. SECURITY DefragMentor Lite is Windows NT security model compliant. You must be a member of local Administrators group in order to use DefragMentor Lite. ====================================================================== HOW TO INSTALL ====================================================================== Run DMLSETUP.EXE and follow the Setup Wizard instructions. It takes just a minute to install the product. ====================================================================== HOW TO REMOVE ====================================================================== Open Add/Remove Programs applet from the Control Panel.
