Christmas on a Gulfstream 650
Time flies they say – I think the past
year was a passenger on the record
breaking Gulfstream as it has whizzed by.
December is the season of goodwill
while January is cited as a time for
reflection and New Year resolutions. Is
this true, does anybody even make New
Year resolutions? Then of course, there
is the constant threat of doing away with
Christmas on the South African calendar
of public holidays. How do we explain to
young children that Santa Claus is gone,
never again to struggle down chimneys
for his cookies and glasses of milk (or
sherry if dad of the house is feeling
generous), leaving some presents behind
in thanks? No more red-coated jolly
men handing out sweeties in the malls,
no more Jingle Bells in shops, no more
colourful decorations to fascinate our
children and make adults feel a little bit
more cheerful about the loose of weight
their bank accounts will experience!!
Nope! We can’t do it.
Christmas is a time to rest (for
about half the SA population), spend
time with our families (hopefully not
just out shopping) and forgetting
the woes of the past year.
I spent a short time browsing the
internet, month by month, to find some
good news in the aviation world. Almost
nothing, nada, niks or whatever other
language I can dreg up from my memory
and that does not include Mandarin.
Individual companies had good news
– Gulfstream broke several speed records,
new aircraft have been revealed by
amongst others HondaJet and COMAC
(China), Vans Aircraft RV aircraft built
by Robin Coss Aviation in Cape Town,
is proving ever popular. Local aviation
companies seem to be riding out the
storms that seem to hit the market every
now and then and hopefully 2016 will
prove to be a great year for them.
We must also congratulate FlySafair
for achieving success in their 1st year of
scheduled flights, and at the same time
recoil at the mess that SAA is becoming.
December, Christmas and holidays
will soon be past and as we go into
the new year Global Aviator will
be taking another step forward.
Global Military will be making
its debut in February. Featuring not
only feature military aviation, but
military across the board both local and
international. Look out for the first issue.
For those going on holiday –
whether you are driving, flying or
using any other transport, or even just
staying at home – be safe. Travel with
care and return back home safely.
Enjoy the break, have a Festive
Christmas and a happy New Year.
