WELCOME
Race season is finally here and I, for
one, can’t believe it’s come around so
quickly. I don’t have loads lined up
this spring, but one of them is the
London Marathon, so I really want to
do the best I can for that. I’ve been
pretty diligent with my training so far,
gradually building up the miles, but
I’m not doing enough cross-training
– I keep finding reasons not to go swimming, join the gym,
sign up for Pilates etc etc.
When running’s your first love, it
feels like cheating to go and do something else (plus, that won’t
get logged on your app stats). However, this month’s feature on
Pilates for runners has turned my head
(p38), mostly
because I’m suffering a bit from poor hip strength (don’t worry,
I’m not going to bang on about all my niggles) but partly
because it’s something I’ve never tried; I will keep you posted on
the results. If your problem isn’t that you haven’t cross-trained
but that you
haven’t trained at all,
try not to panic – Sarah
has all the advice and info you need (p28) to get yourself round
the course and be proud of what you’ve done, even if it means
forefitting a PB. Whatever stage you’re at, remember that
as
long as you’re enjoying it,
it’s worth it!
