he positive effects of being active in
the outdoors are known and enjoyed
by many thousands of walkers and
climbers – and we don’t need
scientific studies to confirm this. Whether
you’re feeling down in the dumps, or stressed
by the pressures of ‘modern life’ even just an
,
hour in the hills can change your mood and
bring you renewed energy – well it does for
me, anyway! And when you get out for a big
weekend where you’re fighting with the
elements, or pushing yourself to complete a
tough route, the rewards are even more
plentiful. Thoughts of electric bills or
household chores couldn’t be further from
the mind! Sometime with these benefits
come risks too – especially in winter – and
Andy Kirkpatrick ponders this in his column
on page 11. But surely the risks of being
inactive, or leading an unfulfilled life, are far
more scary than those we face when doing
the things we enjoy outdoors?
