For those of you with a break
already booked, plenty of down-
time reading is assured with this,
AMW’s
biggest ever issue at a
thumping 132 pages. There’s
much to get one’s teeth into,
with our special section on
Hawker’s car-door Typhoon,
encompassing an exclusive 1/24
Airfix build, history, colours and
markings. If you haven’t already
taken the significant plunge
of buying the ‘slider’ Typhoon
when it was released two years
ago, this is now the perfect
opportunity to experience a true
Superkit, and own a model with
serious presence.
Also here is Airfix’s all-new
1/48 P-40B Warhawk, a type I’m
delighted to see represented by
fresh tooling…but isn’t it weird
how one’s tastes can change in
an instant? I was never that big
a fan of the P-40, so it didn’t
feature highly on my modelling
radar until I visited the Imperial
War Museum Duxford a few years
ago, and saw the real P-40C
parked in the sunshine, in all its
Pearl Harbor scheme glory. There
was something about its sporty,
aggressive looks that grabbed me
immediately, and from then on
I was hooked. Various P-40 kits
have been sought and I’ll soon
add Airfix’s splendid kit to my
collection. It certainly proves that
seeing the real machines can be
hugely inspiring.
There’s a wonderful mix of
genres in this issue, too.
Fans of modern fighters can
drool over Hasegawa’s splendid
Su-35S
Flanker,
and if you’re into
tanks, we present Takom’s new
Chieftain in that tricky Berlin
urban livery, but there’s also
sci-fi, naval and auto content to
raise the variety levels.
Never mind Brexit and all its
potential problems, or the fact
that at present the world seems
to be going quite mad. Immerse
yourself in this month’s edition
and be inspired…then get building!
