he highlight of this month was my
visit, for the first time, to the Scale
ModelWorld 2016 show at the Telford
International Centre which literally took my
breath away when I entered the first hall.
I lost count of how many times I walked
around and with each circuit I spotted
something different all of it with potential to
empty my wallet within seconds. The day
was broken up by meeting several Military
Modelling supporters as well as a number
of contributors and traders, all of whom
were very supportive and encouraging.
This issue highlights an important
anniversary in US Military history; the
attack by the Japanese on Pearl Harbor on
December 7 1941. With that in mind, I have
,
introduced my first ship article into the
mix followed by another aircraft subject.
I’m afraid AFVs weren’t really in the fray at
Pearl Harbor but I’ve still managed to tick
that box combined with a diorama and a
figure feature.
Quite a number of people have contacted
me direct, worried that the magazine will be
going down the same road as Euro Militaire.
Well, I can assure you that I have heard no
such news and as far as I’m concerned the
future looks bright. Sales continue to climb
but it will take some time before I can really
relax and know that all our efforts have been
worth it. Since taking over I’ve managed to
increase the average number of features
from five to eight without increasing the
pagination (although I still hope to do this
in the future). To date, this approach has
been well-received and my determination
to recreate the original magazine’s diversity
remains solid.
Once again, trying to keep every modeller
happy is an impossible task but, regardless
of what military subject is being portrayed,
it’s all still modelling and isn’t that what it’s
all about?
