NKK SWITCHES
New CoB LED arrays produce
high centre-beam candle power
Philips Lumileds has introduced a compact
LED array which produces a very high
centre-beam candle power of 65,000
candelas at a 10˚ beam angle.
The LUXEON CoB (Chip on Board) 1202s
has a small footprint which makes it the ideal
choice for designers of compact directional
lamps. The LUXEON CoB 1202s is also
available with Philips Lumileds’ CrispWhite
Technology, which highlights the richest
whites and vibrant colours and which is
becoming popular in retail merchandising
displays.

New LED driver compatible with
more than 90% of dimmers
Fairchild Semiconductor has released the
FL7734, a phase-cut dimmable single-stage
LED driver for LED lighting fixtures
consuming between 5W and 30W.
The FL7734 is a highly integrated LED
controller which uses Fairchild’s active
dimmer-driving technology to eliminate
visible flicker or shimmer, while offering
compatibility with more than 90% of
dimmers, including leading-edge, trailing-
edge and digital types. The device provides
a programmable dimming curve and input
current-management flexibility, and
implements full power factor correction.
NKK ISF15ACP4 switches: display on top surface may be configured on a PC
NKK Switches has introduced a push-
button switch which features an OLED
display screen covering the entire top
surface of the button.
The display on the new OLED Full Screen
Colour IS switch, part number ISF15ACP4, has
a resolution of 96 dots x 64 dots, and can
render 65,536 colours. A lens design developed
by NKK enables the OLED display to reach the
edge of the button’s top surface, which also has
an extremely thin frame width of less than 1mm.
The top surface of the switch measures
23mm x 21mm. NKK Switches has designed
the IS switch’s assembly so that multiple
switches can be mounted next to each other,
without any tangible edges. This gives product
designers the flexibility to create larger illuminated
switch surfaces in a variety of shapes and sizes.
The vibrant OLED display’s output can be
configured easily in IS Color Editor for Windows,
an image creation and editing tool supplied by
NKK. The switch’s display may be controlled via
a serial peripheral interface.
The switch’s twin contacts are gold-plated for
durability, ensuring it provides stable
performance for the life of the device. In
addition, the terminals are sealed with epoxy to
prevent flux from entering the body of the switch
during board assembly. The epoxy seal also
helps to eliminate slack in the terminals, for
greater contact stability.
The switch’s body is dust-tight. It is rated
for operation at temperatures between -20°C
and 70°C.

The ISGU16 Graphic Board is a design support tool for

T55 series of
surface-mount polymer tantalum moulded
chip capacitors offers extremely low ESR
of as little as 30mΩ at 25°C and 100kHz.
The low ESR of the T55 capacitors is
attributable to their polymer cathodes, which
offer better performance than manganese
dioxide devices. In addition, the T55 series’
high ripple-current capability, as well as its low
ESR, provide for superior charge/discharge
characteristics.
The T55 series devices are available in five
different case sizes
offering capacitance
values ranging from 3.3µF

the introduction of two automotive-
qualified 600V IGBTs
which offer features well
suited to small auxiliary
motor-drive applications,
particularly in hybrid and
electric vehicles.
Based on IR’s COOLiRIGBT
™
technology platform and co-
packaged with a soft-recovery
diode, the 24A-rated
AUIRGP66524D0 and
AUIRGF66524D0 have a low
on-state collector-emitter
voltage, which reduces power
dissipation and helps to
improve system efficiency. Their
maximum junction temperature
of 175°C helps designers to achieve high
power density.
The new devices offer a minimum 6µs short-
circuit rating at a junction temperature of 150°C.
A square reverse-bias safe operating area
provides an additional measure of ruggedness.
The devices are designed with a positive
temperature coefficient of the on-state
collector-emitting voltage, for easy paralleling
in high-power applications.
IR’s automotive IGBTs are subject to
dynamic and static part average testing,
combined with completely automated wafer-
level visual inspection, as part of IR’s
automotive quality initiative aimed at achieving
a defect rate of zero.

CUI has introduced the PCM-400, a
family of compact 400W AC-DC power
supplies housed in four optional
chassis-mount case styles.
All the PCM-400 power supplies
operate from a 90V to 264V AC
input, so that they can be run from a
mains supply anywhere in the world.
The power supplies are rated for
operation at full load at ambient
temperatures from 0°C to 50°C, derating to

High-performance 8-bit MCU offers
20MIPS throughput
STMICROELECTRONICS
The STM8S208xx is the latest member
of STMicroelectronics’ high-performance
line of 8-bit microcontrollers, featuring a
fast processor core that supports up to
68 general-purpose I/Os.
Designers using the STM8S208xx can achieve
reduced system cost and robust performance,
while benefiting from shorter development
cycles.
A high level of integration in the STM8S208xx
series reduces the number and cost of the
external components required in typical system
designs. For instance, a data EEPROM of up
to 2kbytes is provided, specified to last for up
to 300,000 write/erase cycles. The MCU also
features internal clock oscillators, a watchdog
and a brown-out reset. In addition, the devices
contain a generous Flash programme memory
capacity of between 32kbytes and 128kbytes.
A high-speed 24MHz core produces a
throughput of as much as 20MIPS. The
processing capability of the STM8S208xx is
backed by robust I/O, independent watchdogs
with a separate clock source, and a clock-
security system.
ST has ensured that applications are scalable
across the STM8S208xx and STM8S207xx
series: they share a common architecture with
compatible pin-outs, memory maps and
modular peripherals, helping designers to
reduce the time required to develop multiple
product variants based on a platform design.
The advanced STM8 core, with a Harvard
architecture and
three-stage pipeline,
is fabricated using

technology, which
helps to provide users
with the confidence
that it will be available
to support products

Low-profile 500mW Zener diodes

Vishay Intertechnology has introduced the first Zener diodes rated for 500mW
of power dissipation to be housed in the ultra-compact MicroSMF eSMP
®
series package.
The symmetrical SOD-
323 flat-lead package
style used by the new
Vishay Semiconductors
PLZ series diodes
gives them compact
footprints and low
profiles of <0.6mm,
which is smaller than
comparable diodes in
plastic or glass
surface-mount
packages. It helps
designers to save PCB
space, and also
supports production
engineers’ efforts to
increase pick-and-
place speed in the
assembly line.
Combining extremely tight voltage tolerances
with low leakage current and excellent stability,
the PLZ series is able to withstand ESD pulses
of 8,000V (human body model). The diodes
offer a voltage tolerance of ±2.5%.
The diodes feature a planar structure which
provides for high performance, ruggedness
and reliability. They are ideal for voltage
stabilisation and reference-voltage generation
in power supplies and LED lighting.
