London in bloom
Welcome to the greenest city in the world!
As the
Chelsea Flower Show
begins, we
celebrate London’s green spaces to visit for
a day trip, stroll or even on a rainy day (p. 10).
Restaurant menus are also blooming with
floral ingredients from tulips to thiên l�½ (p. 62).
Most people think they probably won’t catch
a glimpse of the royal family while they are in
London, but thanks to
Beating Retreat
you
can. The show, which has taken place since
1690, brings pomp and pageantry to the city.
Prince Philip – the Queen’s husband – gives the
royal salute, while the family watch on (p. 16).

Now marking its 40th year, the
studios were founded by leading glassmaker
Peter Layton. We tried a glassmaking class,
which you can also do to create dazzling
pieces you will cherish (p. 54).
I also had the joy of speaking to the
musician
Nitin Sawhney,
who is performing
at the Alchemy festival – a celebration of
Asian arts and culture. He shared his top spots
in London, including where to get a late-night
coffee and see a breathtaking sunrise (p. 82).
