the arrows.

in Figure 2 and press.

Apply fusible web to the wrong side
of the 5 x 21-inch yellow strip, the 4 x
42-inch green floral strip and the 10

x 42-inch green floral strip.

Trace the petal pattern pieces onto
template plastic and cut out.

Fuse in place. Position a piece 2 over
each raw edge of each yellow piece 1
with points touching and fuse in place.

Trace five of piece 1 onto the
paper side of the fusible web on the
yellow fabric. Trace 16 of piece 2 onto
the smaller piece of green floral and 16
of piece 3 onto the paper side on the
larger piece of green floral. Cut out each
piece and remove the backing paper.

Fold each 12

-inch white tone-on-
tone square in half with wrong sides
together and press. Fold in half again
and press. Open the squares and use
the creases to help you center the tulip
pieces on the square.

Position and fuse leaves in place
on top of folded buds.

Fold each lavender-stripe square in
half with stripes running vertically and
press. Fold in half again and press to
make the tulip bud.

Position a piece 3 at each corner
of the block and lightly fuse the
outer edges only to hold the pieces
in position. Slip the raw edges of the
folded lavender square under the inner
edges until 1

inches of each folded
edge shows. Fuse piece 3 in place on
top of the lavender bud.
10.
Machine stitch around the raw
edges of pieces 2 and 3, using Kerry
Green thread in the bobbin and Spring
Green thread in the needle.
11.
Arrange the blocks in three rows
of three blocks each following the
Quilt Assembly Diagram, Figure 4.
Sew the blocks together in rows and
press the seams toward the tulip

Layer the quilt top with the
batting and backing; pin or hand baste
the layers together.

With white quilting thread, stitch
in the ditch of the seams in the quilt
blocks and the inner border.

Stipple-quilt the center and the
triangles of each Block A and in the
outer border of the quilt.

Stitch
1/8
inch from the outer raw
edges and trim the excess batting and
backing even with the quilt top.
18.
Use bias seams to sew the binding
strips together and press open. Fold
the strip in half lengthwise with wrong
sides together and press. Apply the
double-layer binding to the quilt using
3/8
-inch-wide seams and mitering the
corners as you reach them.
19.
Turn the binding over the raw edge
and slipstitch in place on the back of
the quilt.
Hang It Up!
Make your lap
quilt more versatile by adding a
hanging sleeve to the back.
Make a fabric tube from a 5-inch-
wide strip of fabric. It should
be slightly shorter than the
measurement of the upper edge
of the quilt. Position one edge of
the tube along the inner edge of
the binding and slipstitch in place
along both long edges of the
tube. Slip over a cafe curtain rod
to hang.
