Linked hearts on bed linens make a perfect wedding gift. If you don’t know
the bride’s colors, try a subtle beige-on-white combination. If someone
is making a quilt for the bride, ask for matching scraps for the hearts.

Directions are for twin sheet and pillowcase, but
additional hearts can be added for any size.

• Fabric scraps that coordinate with sheets
• 17" x 36" fusible transfer web
• 1 yard fabric stabilizer
• Air-soluble marker
• All purpose thread to match fabric scraps

• Basic sewing supplies and tools
Step 6.
Cut fabric
stabilizer to fit behind hearts. Stitch around each heart
using matching thread and buttonhole- or zigzag-
stitch. Remove stabilizer and trim threads.
Step 7. With a narrow satin stitch or decorative stitch,
sew directly over factory-stitched hem. Trim threads.

Instructions
Step 1.
Prewash sheets and fabrics; do not use fabric
softener.
Step 2.
Transfer heart to template material and cut
out. Trace both inner and outer lines of 28
hearts on paper side of fusible transfer web
leaving

" space around each shape. Cut
out, leaving approximately

" margin
around each shape.
Step 3.
Press fabric scraps. Following
manufacturer’s directions, fuse hearts to
backs of selected fabric scraps. Each
may be a different color or you may
have several of each color. Cut out on
both inner and outer traced lines, but do
not cut slash line yet.

Step 4.
Mark center of pillowcase hem with
air-soluble marker. Lay out seven hearts across
pillowcase hem, aligning center heart with center
mark as shown in Fig. 1. First heart at far right will
not be slashed. Slash remaining six hearts as shown on
pattern. Slip first heart through slash and arrange so
hearts appear to be interlocked. Continue to add hearts
