Correlation Report: Frequently Asked Questions
What is this assignment about?
This study will investigate whether there is a significant relationship between personality
and perceived stress. Through collecting your own data and conducting a correlation
analysis you will explore whether there is a relationship between one personality trait (from
a choice of 5) and the extent to which individuals judge events in their life to be stressful.
What will I learn through this assessment?
The aim of this report is to demonstrate your ability to communicate research findings in a
quantitative research report. You will learn both subject specific and transferable skills
through your engagement of this report.
What subject-specific knowledge will I need for this assessment?
For this piece of coursework, you will draw on a range of knowledge including:
Individual differences in personality
Perceptions of stress and the manifestations of this
The role and procedure of ethical research in psychology
The use of psychometric questionnaires to address psychological research questions
The role of correlation and correlational design to address psychological questions.
What transferable skills will I use during this piece of assessment?

2. Further guidelines and tips are also available in the books on your recommended
reading list. Specifically, chapters 1-8 of Harris’ text provides extensive guidance on what
to consider in each section of the report. This book is available in hard copy in the library
or you can access the electronic version
here.
3. Specific guidelines about what you need to doare found in the Assignment
Documentation section on Blackboard (Assignments > Report 1)
4. An example report is provided
here
as a guide. Please note that this report had a
different analysis and aim to your report. It also does NOT mean that it is a perfect
report. This is simply meant as a guide to the type of information and structure that you
should aim for.
5. You are welcome to email the
module staff
or sign up for office hours to discuss any
questions that you might have about the report. Please bear in mind that we will expect
that you have first tried to address your question by checking the detailed guidelines
and
module handbook.
Where the answer to your question is in these sources of
information you will be redirected back to these documents.
6. As we approach the end of term optional drop in sessions will be organised so that you
can drop-in to discuss any element of the report that you are still unsure about. You will
be notified of the specific dates and times closer to the time.
7. Attending
lectures and practicals, and engaging in Blackboard activities
is key to getting
practice, suggestions, tips and feedback on your own ideas which can then be
implemented into your report.
