What a start it's going to be to the new
year, if my recent visit to the Oxford
Diecast preview day is anything to go
by. New tooling is seemingly coming
from every direction when it comes to
the proli c manufacturer, clearly leading
the way in that respect right now. My
photographic preview report in this
issue could have easily run to double the
number of pages, but that would have
left less space for all the other articles in
another bumper packed issue. Balance is
the key here I believe. Sometimes I feel
like I have mastered the art of spinning
plates! Trying to t everything in is always
a tricky job and I know there are some
areas that don't get as much attention
as others. That old expression about not
being able to please all the people all
of the time is always at the back of my
mind, so please get in touch if you think
one of those plates has lacked a spin
recently and needs a bit more oomph. Is
that even a word? I use it all the time, so
it must be. A quick check on the Urban
Dictionary website con rms it is: " An
extra push. An ingredient or a factor that
will make something better or perfect."
Talking of extra oomph, I've been on my
travels again a fair bit this past month. In
addition to the aforementioned preview
and my usual trips to collect new samples
for review, I've just been to the Sandown
Toy Fair again. Organised by BP Fairs,
this is one of my favourites of the year
and I now consider myself a regular here.
Apart from the launch of the excellent
new book by David Wright, it provided
me with a good chance to catch up with
lots of our contributors (except Brian
Salter, who I kept missing apparently,
sorry Brian!) and snaf e a bargain
or two, or three, or... Safe to say, my
pocket money was de nitely exhausted
in one fell swoop, it's that old devil
called temptation again. If I believed in
undertaking a New Year's resolution, I
would resolve to have more will power
under such circumstances. But as I gave
up "giving up" etc. many years ago, it's
safe to assume that this trend will carry
on in Wilson's World. As the collection
grows ever bigger, despite occasional
rationalisation attempts on a certain
online auction website, maybe I should
resume that resolution thing and do
something about that this year, as well as
keeping an eye on all those plates. That
would be a good start to the New Year!
