the hiatus of the last
few months. New
carpets, new
curtains, and a new
portrait of the Great
Helmsman hanging
on the office wall.
There are still some
sands left waiting to
settle, but as we
work together with the design team and
other elements of the company we are
confident that the creases will all be ironed
out in a couple of issues and we will have
established what needs to go where, what
more we need to shoehorn in, and what
needs to be reorganised and presented with
a little more clarity and organisation. Details, I
hope. On the whole I am pleased with what
the chaps have put together, particularly as
their Herculean efforts at my behest have
allowed time for some modelling, so much in
fact that this month I have actually managed
to get something finished.
This may have been a fluke – or just a
particularly well engineered kit – but it
means I am pleased to join the ranks of the
elect and present my work alongside our
usual mix of modelling excellence,
innovation, reference and inspiration.
On which note thanks to all the many
contributors past, present and future for the
mass of material that has been flowing in
over the last six weeks. My chief problem at
the moment is fitting it all in around the
existing regular commitments but rest
assured everything is gratefully received and
we will try to get round to using it all in due
course. Trying to present a balanced
magazine each month without reducing the
font size any further does mean we can’t do
everything we would like, but who knows –
maybe in due course we can look at
increasing the page count?
In the meantime do get in touch if you
have material you would like to offer us for
consideration, and do keep the feedback
coming in as well. We are grateful for all
opinions received. Praise or dispraise alike
help us to present a better product, so please

over the Channel Front. The Fw 190 was an
exceptionally capable aircraft, was superior
in performance over the Mk V Spitfire in all
but its turn rate and it was not until the
Spitifre Mk IX came into service that the
FW190’s performance was surpassed.
The F-8 version differed in having a
modified injector on the BMW 801 D-2
radial engine compressor, which gave
increased performance at lower altitudes.
The F-8 carried two twenty mm MG 151/20
Cannon in the wings and two thirteen mm
MG131 Machine Guns mounted above the
engine. The F-8 is chiefly known for its use
as a ground-attack variant, and it is in this
guise that Revell present the kit. At least
3,400 F-8s were built, and a wide range of
weapons and offensive weaponry could be
carried and this, along with the often
unusual camouflage schemes employed on
the Eastern Front towards the end of the
war, make this a fascinating and versatile
subject for a first boxing.
This is a brand new kit from Revell in
1/32 and the test shot sprues are very
impressive. There are twelve sprues of grey
and three clear sprues of injection
moulded plastic, one decal sheet and one
instruction booklet. Colour call outs will be
the usual Revell paint numbers with RLM
cross references. The kit also comes with a
stand, which is unusual in this scale.
The Kit
he Focke-Wulf Fw 190 needs little
introduction as any World War II
aviation enthusiast will be well aware
of this legendary aircraft’s performance
during that conflict. Briefly it was designed
by Kurt Tank in Germany in the late 1930s
and began flying operationally in 1941

quite effective and used here to show how they appear in situ

Engine bearers need careful handling but make for a solid
location once in place
The kit quickly builds up into a very detailed model

Construction
The build begins by deciding if you want
to use the stand or not, as if so you have to
open up holes in the lower wing section.
While you are at it do not forget to open up
holes in the same part to mount the under
wing stores if required.
Work continues by painting and
assembling the cockpit. Decals are supplied
for the instrument panel and seat belts,
although I would advise not fitting the
shoulder harnesses until the seat has been
installed into the cockpit as the fixing
points are on the top of the cockpit
bulkhead behind the seat. The interior parts
were sprayed with RLM 66 Black Grey and
then touched up to bring out the superb
detail. When completed, and with the
decals added to the panel, it looks pretty
good straight from the box.
Sections 10a, 11a and 12a (which should
be 12b and will probably corrected when
the kit hits the market) cover assembly of
the tail wheel in either the raised or
lowered position, and this was now painted
and assembled ready for inserting into the
fuselage. The instrument panel and
coaming are shown in the instructions as
being fitted into one of the fuselage halves
and then the two fuselage halves glued
together, however I found this a little
awkward so I would suggest gluing the two
