Severn Trent needs to build a 20 storey skyscraper office building in Nottingham on a
restricted site and requires high level building services and finishes. There is also
potential for disruption to local and city functions.
Which procurement route would you consider for the following scenario and why?
Scenario 2
A first-time property developer acquired a property in a Brownfield site and wishes to
convert this to a 5 storey block of flats. With high interest rates on borrowed capital,
timely completion is vital for the client.

Which procurement route would you consider for the following scenario and why?
Scenario 3
A large multi-national organisation wishes to erect a new headquarters in Manchester to
demonstrate the innovative and dynamic growth of the company. The organisation has employed
an architect well known for revolutionary designs using the latest technologies. Therefore, much
collaborative work is needed between the architect and specialist manufacturers. In addition, the
client wants the building handed over within the shortest possible time.
Scenario 4
An academic institution is in need of an additional teaching facility and has been awarded a grant
of £12million. An detailed design brief was prepared by the Faculty and the key requirements
were: an efficient, innovative building which provides required functionality and the building
should be completed by the beginning of the next academic year ( Sept 1
st
2017).

At a strategic level the Client can be advised and identify any sustainability and
environmental issues for a project and devise means of controlling them at the
pre-design stage.
This can be achieved by adopting appropriate plans and systems of
environmental & sustainability management and through the
selection and
management of the procurement process.
Managing the Sustainable performance of projects.
KEY ACTIONS FOR CLIENTS
Ensure project leadership comes from the Client.
Get advice from the right consultants with appropriate skills & experience
and the necessary understanding of sustainability.
Decide why the project is to be sustainable.

Decide how you are going to achieve a sustainable project .
Decide how you will evaluate how sustainable your construction project is
