Thisbookisbasedontheauthor’syearsofexperienceinconstruction,engineering,and
education.Theobjectiveofthisseventheditioncontinuestobetoguideconstruction
engineersandconstructionmanagersinplanning,estimating,anddirectingconstruction
operationsinamannerthatwillattainthebestpossibleresults.Itisbelievedthatthema-
terialpresentediscomprehensiveenoughtoserveasthebasictextforavarietyofcon-
structioncoursesaswellasforself-study.Foranintroductorycourse,upper-division
collegeanduniversity-levelstudentsshouldbeabletocoverthematerialinonesemester.
Formorein-depthcoverage,thematerialmaybesplitbetweentwoormorecourses.Top-
icsmay,ofcourse,beomittedoraugmentedasappropriatetothenatureofthecourseand
thedesiresoftheinstructor.Insolvingthecomputerproblemscontainedintheend-of-
chapterexercises,itissuggestedthatstudentsbeencouragedtouseelectronicspread-
sheetsandtheirassociatedfunctionsinadditiontoconventionalcomputerprogramming
