here have all the fourms gone? Yes, those forums where up to two
years ago we found a digital haven where we could admire
masterpieces, discussing anything in a more or less animated
fashion and where maybe globalization in our world began, thanks to the
participation of friends coming from the 5 continents with whom informa-
tion was exchanged.
It really looks as if social networks have supplanted them and driven them
to extinction. There is no actual reason, simply an evolution of opportuni-
ties and technology. And just like on forums, sometimes (rarely, actually)
some very interesting debates appear on social networks. It wasn't long
ago that I read a post by a friend wondering why we are all striving for the
perfect paint mix, the perfect lighting, the perfect colour brand or the per-
fect brush instead of simply following good taste.
The debate obviously sparked different opinions and I feel I can offer mine
in regard.
Firstly, I agree that the "perfect" tool or technique does not make an arti-
st of one; at best, it can help us realise what ought to be our ability to crea-
te OUR little masterpiece.
It is also true that the search for perfection has always driven men to
improve and overcome their limits, in the arts and in science as well as in
all other human activities.
I don't think it is simply a matter of following good taste, perhaps it would
be better to create our own taste, through the ability to sift through the
wealth of information we have access to now, a richness of material that
can be levelling at times.
Indeed, this abundance of information can drive us to follow the trend of
the moment, the artist of the moment, the technique of the moment, resul-
ting in an emotionally flat, if technically perfect, approach.
Let us seek our taste and rediscover it, savouring our enjoyment of model-
ling, because it lets us spend time better, because it is an expression of our
souls, because we love it!
