“Twilight falls.
The goblin Fenya sounded calm, despite the flock of violings that swarmed eagerly around them
– the nasty birds could predict bloodshed, they all knew that. Kvarek felt the sweat on his palms threaten
his grip on the spear and shouted over his shoulder: “Magdala, faster!” The witch didn’t answer, lost
as she was to the sinister harmonies of the ritual, her hands caressing the pillar’s grim stone face.
A loud rumbling echoed through the ruin, as if some giant creature had awoken and stood up
from under layer upon layer of stone and soil. “The witch said that the abominations come out at
night,” the goblin muttered. Kvarek’s knuckles whitened as he tightened the grip: “No, only that they
are hungriest after dark. They are not afraid of the evening sun, and not of …” He was cut short by
Magdala’s hoarse voice: “The pillar has answered. I know where the mausoleum is.”
Then, out of the ruins, the Blight Beast came at them, massive and roaring. Its claws scraped the
rocky ground, scouring out deep sores oozing pure corruption, leaving drops of black, mercury-like
mildew on moss and stones in its wake.
"We cannot escape this,” said Fenya. Magdala nodded agreement. “Well then,” Kvarek sighed,
“this is where we make our stand, for the right to the treasures of Symbaroum.”
Davokar darkens.”

Explore the vast Forest of Davokar in the
hunt for treasures, lost wisdoms and fame. Visit the barbarian clans to trade or to plunder their
treasuries. Establish a base of power among princes, guilds or rebellious refugees in the capital
city of Yndaros. Or survive encounters with Arch Trolls, dark-minded Blight Beasts and undead
warlords. But whatever you do, never ignore the warnings spoken by the wardens of the forest:
tread carefully and do not disturb the ruins of old, for the dark deep of Davokar is about to awaken.

and in its burning eyes I saw the death of all.”
A dream come true
Järnringen released its first
tabletop roleplaying
game around Christmas of 2001. That game,
Mutant:
Undergångens Arvtagare,
became a stepping stone for
the entire team, taking us from jobs in health care,
journalism, entrepreneurship or research into careers
as writers, artists, producers and high level business
managers. Not all team members ended up working with
games (although 5 of 8 did, full time or as contractors
in the game industry), but we all learned tons from the
experience and grew a couple of inches each, as persons
and as professionals.
In 2013, three of the original Järnringen members
teamed up with two new talents to realize a dream,
namely to produce the TRPG we always had longed to
write, illustrate, design and also to play. The Swedish
version of
Symbaroum
launched 15 months ago and with
this international edition we are taking our dream
out into the world. Our hopes are high. We hope to
learn (level up) even more. We hope that the content
of this book shows how much we love to work with
roleplaying games in general, and with
Symbaroum
in particular. But most of all we hope that we’ll get to
explore the fate of Ambria and Davokar for many years
to come and that you are willing to tag along for the
ride. Because no matter if the journey takes us by boat
on the glittering surface of River Doudram, by caravan
over Ambria’s fertile soils or by foot along the winding
paths of Davokar, one thing is beyond doubt:
Now we are going to enjoy ourselves. Royally!
